PRESS RELEASEKanzan galleryではこのたび、ラトビア・リガ出身、エストニア・タルトゥ在住のアーティストDiāna Tamaneの個展「Half-Love」を開催いたします。1986年にリガで生まれたディアーナ・タマネは、Jānis Rozentals芸術高校卒業後にラトビアを離れ、タルトゥ芸術大学写真学科、Luca芸術学校ブリュッセル校、そしてゲントにあるHISKのポストアカデミックプログラムで学びました。タマネは主に写真とビデオを用い、記憶・日常生活・個人的な出来事などをもとに家族や自身を主人公にした一連の作品群を制作しています。今回で4回目の展示となる「Half-Love」はこれまでさまざまな形で発表されてきましたが、バルト三国以外で展示されるのは初めてになります。2008年に父親の再婚相手の娘であるエリーナが生まれたときから、ディアーナは彼女と一緒に過ごした時間を写真に撮りはじめました。ディアーナはエストニア、エリーナはラトビアで暮らしていますが、この作品はラトビアのクルシーシという海辺の村にある一家のサマーハウスで撮影されました。日本とは異なり、旧ソ連ではこのようなサマーハウスを持つことは珍しくなく、人々は毎年夏に訪れ、野菜を育てたり、休暇を過ごしたりします。ディアーナは毎年夏になるとこの場所に戻り、妹を含む家族とともに過ごします。二人の間には22歳の年齢差があり、住む国も母親も異なりますが、お互いを思いやる姉妹なのです。こうした遠さと近さ、つまり親密さの距離を慎重に測りながらエリーナを撮影していきます。現在まで続く撮影を通じて、「私」も「他者」も物理的、客観的なものとして存在するのではなく、あくまで「関係」としてのみ存在するのだということを教えてくれます。今回の展示はポートレート、ビデオ、そしてディアーナからエリーナへの手紙で構成されています。そこには「森、鳥のさえずり、動物、海、太陽に感謝してください。私たちはお互いの一部であり、お互いなしには存在できないからです」と書かれています。この励ましのメッセージはディアーナと世界との関係を反映しています。一方には森、もう一方には海—これらのポートレートは思い出と愛に満ちたこのサマーハウスで撮影されました。展示作品の別のエディションは、タルトゥ美術館のコレクションになっています。 この展覧会においては、ベルギーの出版社 APE から出版され、2020 年のレ・ランコントル・ダルルブックアワードで著作賞を受賞し、パリ・フォト・アパーチャー財団フォトブックアワードの最終候補に選ばれた写真集『Flower Smuggler』（2020 年）も閲覧できます。 この本は家族アルバムや文書、個人的な手紙が触媒となり、感動的な自伝的物語だけではなく、社会や近現代史の適切な描写も見せてくれます。2月16日（金）には作家によるギャラリートークも開催いたしますので、この機会にぜひご来場ください。kanzan gallery-Kanzan gallery is pleased to present 'Half-Love,' a solo exhibition by Diāna Tamane, an artist from Riga, Latvia, living and working in Tartu, Estonia.Born in Riga in 1986, after graduating from Jānis Rozentals Art School in Riga, Diāna left Latvia to study photography at the Tartu Art College (BA), then at the Luca School of Arts in Brussels (MA) and later at the post-academic programme at the HISK in Ghent. She works mainly with photography and video, creating a series of works based on memories, everyday life and personal events in which her family and herself are often the protagonists.It is the fourth exhibition of 'Half-Love,' which has been presented in different forms but is the first time to be exhibited outside of the Baltics. When Elīna, the daughter of her father's remarriage, was born in 2008, Diāna began photographing the time she spent with her half-sister. Diāna lives in Estonia and Elīna in Latvia, but this work was shot only in the family's summerhouse in the seaside village called Kursīši in Latvia. Unlike in Japan, it is not unusual in the former Soviet Union to have such a summerhouse: people visit them every summer, grow vegetables and have their holidays. Diāna returns to this place every summer to spend time with her family, including her sister. There is a 22-year age difference between them, living in different places and having different mothers - yet they are sisters who care for each other. These distances and closeness - the distance of intimacy - are carefully measured by Diāna when she photographs Elīna. Throughout the shooting, which continues to the present day, she let us know that neither the 'I' nor the 'other' exists as a physical or objective thing, but only as a 'relationship'. In this Kanzan edition, the work consists of portraits, a video and a letter from Diāna to Elīna. She wrote: "Be grateful for forests, birdsong, animals, the sea, the sun, because we are part of each other and we cannot exist without one another." This cheering message reflects on her relationship with the world. Forest on one side, the sea on the other - those portraits were taken in this summerhouse full of memory and love.Another edition of the exhibited works is the Tartu Art Museum collection. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Tallinn University, Estonia. His expertise lies in photographic theory and contemporary French thought. His research focuses on the contemplation of delay, mourning, and the gift in photography, based on the conceptual legacy of Jacques Derrida. His notable publications include "Lein ja fotograafia: Jacques Derrida fototeooria" (Etüüde nüüdiskultuurist; 9, 2021) and "The noeme of photography: the paradigmatic shift in the photographic theory of Roland Barthes" (Kunstiteaduslikke Uurimusi / Studies on art and architecture, 28 (3-4), 7－26., 2019).
